Kyphoplasty & Vertebroplasty

Call us for a MRI REVIEW to determine if Kyphoplasty or Vertebroplasty is appropriate for your pain condition.

These procedures are minimally invasive treatments for fractures in the vertebral bodies of the spine. These compression fractures are often caused by weakness in the bone from osteoporosis. A fracture of the spinal vertebral body may present as sudden mid back or low back pain. An X-ray, CAT scan or MRI will confirm the diagnosis. If the fracture does not heal on its own within the first few weeks, vertebroplasty is an option. It provides rapid and often complete pain relief. Vertebroplasty creates an“internal cast”that stabilizes the vertebrae and allows it to heal without pain, similar to a cast placed on a broken bone of a hand, only this cast is internal and not visible.Kyphoplasty is exactly the same procedure except a balloon is used in addition to the cement to return the height of the vertebral body to its original height.
