Medial Branch Block (Facet Block)

Sometimes pain in the neck, mid back or low back can be coming from the facet joints. Facet joints are tiny joints in the spine between vertebrae. They allow us to bend, flex and twist in the spine.

This diagnostic procedure is done to identify a painful facet joint. Local anesthetic injection numbs the facet joint that is suspected of causing the patient’s pain.Neck pain that travels into the back of the head, or into the shoulders or shoulder blade area can be coming from the facet joints of the neck.

Medial Branch Block Injection Treatment

This is an injection of numbing medicine. It bathes the medial branch nerves, which attach to the facet joints of your spine. These nerves hurt when facet joints are injured or diseased. The injection helps find the source of your pain. And it may relieve your pain for a brief time.

Call us Precision Pain Medicine – Pain Center NY to see if a Facet Block can benefit your pain condition.

Facet joint pain of the low back can present as back pain that sometimes travels into the buttocks and back of the thigh. The procedure takes about 5 to 10 minutes. If a diagnostic block relieves pain, a therapeutic facet block or a Facet Joint RFA will be needed for long lasting pain relief.
