Innovative Alternative to Surgery

This is an innovative treatment that was in the past only available to world class athletes to allow for accelerated healing of injured joints, tendons, and ligaments. Dr. Daniel Khaimov is one of a few doctors in New York area trained to use an innovative treatment called Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP uses the patient’s own blood platelets for healing.

When a body part is injured, normal healing response involves increased blood flow to the site of injury with delivery of activated platelets. These platelets are full of growth and healing factors. The release of these factors allows for healing. Sometimes, however, after an injury the healing response is too slow or healing never happens completely leaving a permanent dysfunction. This exciting treatment intensifies your body’s normal healing efforts by delivering high concentrations of platelets.

Possible Conditions Treated:

  • Arthritis of the knee, shoulder, hips and other joints
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Patellar tendonitis
  • Hamstring tears
  • Chronic muscle, ligament, and tendon tears

How is PRP created?

A blood sample is taken from the patient and is separated into its parts- platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells. Patient’s concentrated platelets are removed into a treatment syringe. The concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected with guidance of ultrasound imaging into and around your point of injury. This jump-starts and strengthens your body’s natural healing response.

How Long Does It Take?

The procedure takes about 45 minutes. There is no risk of surgery, general anesthesia, and hospital stay. Most patients are able to return to work the same day. Because Dr. Khaimov performs PRP therapy as an in-office procedure, the cost is a fraction of the cost of the same procedure done at a surgical facility.
